The Adam Scott Foundation - Autism Grants Program
Based in Queensland, The Adam Scott Foundation Autism Grants Program has been designed to provide young people living with Autism, the access to Apple iPads and their innovative Autism specialised applications. In these early stages, Apple iPads are already proving to be useful tools for children with Autism to improve communication skills. The Adam Scott Foundation Autism Grants Program is available to young people, aged 6-16, with an Autism Diagnosis across Australia. To be eligible you must be a permanent Australian resident.

See The Adam Scott website for more information on application dates.
The application form will be made available on their website closer to the date.

Variety - The Children's Charity ~ iPad Program
WHAT IS VARIETY’S IPAD PROGRAM?
iPads are compact and "cool" multipurpose pieces of equipment, that are allowing children with special needs to communicate, express themselves, aid learning and much more. Variety has seen a significant increase in the requests for assistance from families reaching out for help for this equipment to assist with their child’s development.

Parents, teachers and therapists are seeing firsthand the extraordinary difference these pieces of equipment can make. The iPads come from Variety with applications developed specifically for children with special needs. They are usually picture based and allow a child that is non-verbal to communicate and learn to speak with pictures on a touch screen repeating words that they can build sentences out of. They are also very beneficial to children with a severe learning disabilities and delayed motor skills as it can help them learn to read and keep up in class.

Variety’s applications for assistance have more than doubled from this time last year and we unfortunately don’t have the means to support all of the much needed requests for assistance. Variety – the Children’s Charity currently receives approximately 50 applications a month for these iPads with specialised software and are only able to grant half of these.

JOHN’S STORY
For seven year old autism sufferer, John who had struggled to communicate with those around him, barely able to talk or be understood, Variety’s recent grant of an iPad and special software has enabled John to interact with his family, while also helping him with his speech. His mother, Yvette explains, “Previously John would try to communicate by holding up pictures or photos of what he was trying to convey, which over time became more difficult and frustrating as he struggled to be understood. In just a few short months, the iPad and communication device has significantly aided in his speech development, making life so much easier. It has made such a positive difference to John both with his speech and behaviourally as well. To start he could only manage a few words but is now beginning to speak in sentences. He is infinitely happier also as he no longer gets frustrated and upset by not being able to communicate with us and every day his speech is progressing further.”
